Powder and softener leave a sticky residue in the drawer and the recess behind it. This can block water jets, cause overflow and grow mould.

Steps

  1. Pull the drawer out to its stop. Look for a release catch (often a small tab or button) and lift or press it to remove the drawer fully.
  2. Take out any inserts, such as the softener siphon cap.
  3. Soak the parts in warm water and scrub with an old toothbrush.
  4. Clean the recess with the toothbrush and a damp cloth, including the water jets at the top.
  5. Dry and refit.

Cleaning it monthly takes five minutes and prevents most drawer problems.
